WABA June Meeting

The Williamsburg Area Beekeepers Association (WABA) held its June 2024 monthly meeting, featuring an enlightening presentation by our very own Cody Misner. His briefing focused on the Demaree Split method and effective swarm management strategies, providing attendees with valuable insights into colony care.

Cody’s discussion highlighted the importance of understanding bee biology to successfully split honeybee colonies and prevent swarm loss. He explained how the Demaree method minimizes the need for additional equipment, addressing issues of overcrowding and brood interruption—key factors that can trigger swarming urges in honeybees.

By implementing the Demaree technique, Cody has experienced remarkable success in rapidly building comb and nurturing large, strong colonies while keeping the entire foraging force intact. His practical tips and firsthand experiences offered a wealth of knowledge for both novice and experienced beekeepers alike.

The meeting concluded with a lively Q&A session, where members engaged with Cody, further exploring the intricacies of swarm management and colony health. WABA continues to foster a supportive environment for learning and sharing best practices in beekeeping. We look forward to more informative sessions in the future!
