This month, the Williamsburg Area Beekeepers Association (WABA) had the privilege of hosting a distinguished panel of Master Beekeepers from the Virginia State Beekeepers Association. The event featured experts Pete Ostrowski of Bena Bees LLC, Kristine Smith of Stone Horse Apiary and Apothecary, and Andy Westrich of Hampton Apiary, who shared their wealth of knowledge with our members.
The panel covered a wide range of topics, including sustainable beekeeping practices, hive treatment tips, swarm management strategies, and words of encouragement for those aspiring to become Master Beekeepers. Their insights provided valuable guidance for both novice and experienced beekeepers looking to enhance their hive management skills.
Attendees were encouraged to engage with the panelists during a lively Q&A session, where they posed questions that spurred meaningful discussions. The expert panelists offered practical advice and best practices that can be readily applied to everyday beekeeping.
The title of Master Beekeeper is awarded to individuals who demonstrate years of experience, extensive knowledge, and expertise in beekeeping, validated through both written and practical examinations. For those interested in advancing their skills, WABA encourages members to explore the pathways to becoming an Apprentice, Journeyman, or Master Beekeeper.
For more information on how to get involved and start your journey in beekeeping, don’t hesitate to contact WABA. We’re excited to support the growth of beekeeping knowledge in our community!
