Williamsburg Area Beekeepers Association Hosts May 2025 Meeting with Guest Speaker Nate Brauner

The Williamsburg Area Beekeepers Association (WABA) held its monthly meeting on May 8, 2025, featuring a special presentation by guest speaker Nate Brauner. Members and guests gathered for an informative and engaging session focused on the practical aspects of honey extraction and creating products from the beehive.

Nate Brauner, a second-generation naturalist and a native of Southern California, brought a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the evening. A retired Air Force fighter pilot, Brauner now resides in the Yorktown area, where he stays active with his family and a wide range of community and outdoor initiatives.

Currently serving as President of the Colonial Beekeepers Association, Brauner is also an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 123, a Virginia Master Gardener, and a Virginia Master Naturalist. His passion lies in connecting people with nature and encouraging a deeper understanding of the natural world—a mission that was evident throughout his presentation.

During the meeting, Mr. Brauner led a hands-on class on honey extraction techniques and demonstrated how to make various products from the hive. Attendees learned about the tools and processes involved in harvesting honey, as well as tips for transforming hive materials like beeswax into useful household and skincare items.

In addition to his expertise in beekeeping and natural sciences, Mr. Brauner is also an avid home brewer, further showcasing his interest in self-sustainability and traditional crafts.

WABA members expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn from such a knowledgeable and passionate individual. The meeting not only provided valuable insights into hive management but also inspired participants to explore new ways to make the most of their beekeeping efforts.

WABA looks forward to continuing its mission of education, community engagement, and support for local beekeepers in the months to come.
