WABA Member Brings Buzz to Toano Middle School Career Fair

Toano, VA – April 4, 2025 — Students at Toano Middle School got a sweet surprise during their annual Career Fair when Cody M., a member of the Williamsburg Area Beekeepers Association (WABA), stopped by to share his passion for beekeeping.

Representing WABA, Cody helped students explore potential career paths while teaching them about the vital role honeybees play in the environment and agriculture. One of the highlights of his visit was a live observation hive, which gave students a rare, up-close look at bees in action.

Most kids have never seen live bees working inside a hive. It’s amazing to watch their curiosity turn into understanding and appreciation.

The Career Fair, designed to connect students with local professionals, agencies, and businesses, offered a unique hands-on experience with Cody’s engaging presentation. His visit sparked interest in environmental science, agriculture, and even entrepreneurship — all fields where beekeeping can play a surprising role.

Toano Middle School staff praised the event for inspiring students to think about their futures in new and exciting ways. It’s about opening their eyes to the many possibilities that exist right here in our community.

WABA continues its mission to promote sustainable beekeeping and education across the region, one hive — and one student — at a time!
